Hey everyone, my name is Kyle Oberle and I am a second year at Michigan Technological University. A few friends and I have recently started a polyphasic sleep research group at Michigan Tech to further our knowledge and curiosity in polyphasic sleep patterns.
My plan is to make a youtube vlog (channel: MrTheObs), which will be more of a diary and how I am feeling and then have this blog which will be scientific documentation of my own experiences. I have personally chosen to follow the Dymaxion schedule in which I take a thirty minute nap every six hours. I chose this because it fits my schedule better compared to other schedules. I will be taking my naps at 12 (midnight), 6 a.m., 12 (noon) and 6 p.m.
I have read other blogs of people who have partaken in a schedule such as this and they have reported: a higher alertness, a higher level of energy, twenty-two hours in a day, weight loss, better rested than an eight hour daily sleep schedule and other personal effects that one may or may not acquire. Some cons that I found were: boredom, oversleeping (which ruins everything), missing a nap (which again ruins everything), giving in and feeling like absolute crap for a few days while your body gets use to it. For me, the pro's outweigh the con's in the long run. We shall see.
I will be posting such self observations health, energy levels, daily functioning, academic performance, social performance, eating schedule and my weight. I feel by making a blog, it would be easily accessible to have scientific documentation of my research and self experimentation. Wish me luck!
Go Kyle!
